Customer interview

Whats the hardest part of throwing an axe?

I would say the hardest part is creating your own technique. Everyone being different sizes and strengths really effects how you throw. Someone who is very heavy handed and has more muscle will hold the axe closer to the top of the handle to compensate for the rotation whereas weaker people will have to hold the bottom and let the axe do more of the work for you.

Where did you get the idea of axe throwing?

The idea come from visiting a local community event and when I arrived I found out there was a mobile axe throwing trailer that people were very interested in.

How did you design the trailer?

Well, my father and I have always been good at welding and creating things to make us money. seeing that I could build an axe throwing trailer and have my own business with very little startup cost really spiked my interest.

Where did you’re company name come from?

I actually thought of the name myself. Being from eastern North Carolina I. thought it would be cool to incorporate that into the name.

How long do the axe’s stay sharp?

The axes generally stay pretty sharp, every so often I will take out a file and sharpen the blade some but with the right wood the blades usually cut right through.

What kind of wood do you use?

I use soft pine wood when creating a target. Pine wood is best because it is one of the cheaper woods along with availability.

How long do the targets last?

Usually targets will last anywhere from 3–4 hours depending on how many customers I have and how many times they actually stick the axe into the target.
